Every Tuesday Bibliophile by the Sea hosts First Chapter First Paragraph Tuesday Intros, where we share the first paragraph or (a few) of a book we are reading or thinking about reading soon.
I'm reading Inflicted by Ria Frances, published by Britain's Next Bestseller.
These are the opening lines...
'When Theo opened his eyes, his first thought was that he should be dead. The thought swung like a pendulum then vanished without scorching his memory. An iron sky rushed towards him. He lay helpless beneath it, waiting for oblivion.'

I'm halfway through this novel and finding it a very moving and captivating read.
What do you think, would you keep reading?

Not quite sure it's for me, but sounds like a good match for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Beth. It's taken me a while to pick it up because of the upsetting subject matter, but I'm finding it's well written.
DeleteHi Lindsay,
ReplyDeleteThe cover of this book is certainly arresting and intriguing, although certainly not pretty, without even having to open the cover to discover more.
Your featured first lines would definitely need me to keep reading on, if only to find out why Theo thinks he should be dead.
I love these words from the synopsis "...a delicate friendship severs the barriers between age and experience," and once again, they would be enough on their own to hold me captive to reading this book.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy the rest of your week.
Yvonne.
Thanks for your lovely comment Yvonne. The words about the friendship are really key to the book.
DeleteTheir lives seem so different as they are described in the blurb. I am curious to know how they are connected. I do like the intro as well. Definitely would keep reading.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment, it's clever how the writer has brought them together. I hope I like the ending.
DeleteThis sounds interesting and unusual. I'll have to look up more about this one. I like the bleak descriptiveness of the paragraph.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like it might be an emotional read! I might not be up for this at the moment, but I hope you like it.
ReplyDeleteMy post today also deals with time travel! I was surprised that a book with that kind of plot would appeal to me, but it did, so I'd probably enjoy Inflicted too.
ReplyDeleteMy Tuesday post features SIX STRINGS.
I'd need a bit more before deciding. Enjoy your book and Have a nice week. kelley—the road goes ever ever on
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this new-to-me title and author, and for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteI try not to read stories set in time of war. It's a good intro though.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good start for a book.
ReplyDeleteThe premise also sounds very interesting.
I also really like the cover.
