The Peach Keeper - Sarah Addison Allen



Willa Jackson lives in Walls of Water in North Carolina, USA. Historically her family was one of the wealthiest in town, through the logging industry, but once this died down, things changed, and her grandmother Georgie ended up as a maid to the new rich families in town. The Women's Society Club was co founded by Georgie, but Willa is not a part of this in the present day. The Blue Ridge Madam is the name of a grand old house built by Willa's great great grandfather, empty for years but now saved from disrepair by Paxton Osgood, daughter of a well to do family and current president of the Women's Society Club. Her twin brother Colin is back in town to help the landscaping to finish off the renovations of the Blue Ridge Madam. It is 75 years since the founding of the Society and there is to be a gala to celebrate. Then a skeleton is found under the peach tree by the house, and other, hidden events from 75 years ago are uncovered.

This novel is an enjoyable, likeable, escapist read. It has special magical elements and it contains whispers and secrets. There is romance, a magical man from the past who may or may not be all that he seems, and the blossoming of new unlikely friendships as the main characters change and discover new sides to themselves. It's a lovely, undemanding, entertaining read.
