Book Reviews

‘The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours.’ Alan Bennett

“Many a book is like a key to unknown chambers within the castle of one’s own self.” ― Franz Kafka

The Vintage Teacup Club Book Group Event

The Vintage Teacup Club Event
It was a lovely surprise a couple of weeks ago to discover that I had been lucky enough to be chosen as one of the winners in a competition I entered recently to receive a proof copy of a new novel and to also attend a vintage tea party taking on the theme of the novel, to meet the author and discuss the book with other readers.

The book is called The Vintage Teacup Club and is written by debut author Vanessa Greene and published by Sphere on October 11th, 2012.

I went along to the offices of Little, Brown publishers, of which Sphere is an imprint.

It was a lovely evening, meeting the author, hearing her read from her novel, and chatting to her about it, and also meeting the people involved in publicising and marketing the book, and meeting enthusiastic fellow readers to have a discussion about the book and a general chat over tea and cakes.

Speaking of which, the tea and cakes, served in vintage teacups of course, were also very enjoyable! Tea was poured from what must be the biggest teapot I've ever seen, and served in gorgeous and highly appropriate vintage teacups and saucers. Beautiful little cakes were displayed on pretty cake stands, and it all looked very appealing. Here's a picture whilst there were still plenty of cakes and sandwiches left on the table!

Delicious food!
I'd like to say thank you very much to everyone involved in the event.

I enjoyed reading the novel and will be posting my review soon.
