Book Reviews

‘The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours.’ Alan Bennett

“Many a book is like a key to unknown chambers within the castle of one’s own self.” ― Franz Kafka

It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

So I haven't joined in with this meme for quite a long time, but I used to enjoy it, and since I am aiming to enjoy book blogging more again, I thought, why not return to some of the things I used to like taking part in? “It’s Monday! What are you reading?” is a weekly event hosted by Sheila at Bookjourney to share with others what we’ve read over the past week and are planning to read next.

What I read during the past week:

The Engagements by J. Courtney Sullivan
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

What I am currently reading:

Mrs Sinclair's Suitcase by Louise Walters

What I plan to read next:

Cold Hearts by Gunnar Staalesen
Sweet Dreams, Little one by Massimo Gramellini

~~~~~
What are you reading at the moment, or what's next for you?
  1. I look forward to reading about what you have to say about The Fault in Our Stars. I have heard that it was very good and it looks to be a very thoughtful but perhaps sad book.
    1. Thanks Brian. I've just finished it and I did find it good and very moving, though I think my expectations were perhaps just a bit too high because of what i'd heard about it, and about the author. Somehow it just wasn't quite what I though it would be.
    1. Thanks for the tip Sheila, I'll perhaps try the audio book one day. I do enjoy listening to audio books, though I don't have one on the go all the time.
  6. I'm reading The Dynamite Room by Jason Hewiit (a proof copy). It's one of those novels that keeps you reading because you just don't know what's going on and gradually it's being revealed. Intriguing stuff!
  9. Hi Lindsay,
    You have some great books on your list this week, however one stands out from the rest for me .... 'Mrs. Sinclair's Suitcase' has not only amazing cover art, but an intriguing and interesting storyline for anyone such as myself, who loves old postcards and letters, together with a great new to me author, who is definitely one to watch for the future.
    Reviews for this book have been very good so far, so I shall be interested to see what you think about the story.
    Thanks for sharing and have a great week,
    Yvonne
