I listened to the unabridged audiobook of this novel read by Nathaniel Parker.
I read this novel for the first time when I was a teenager; we were studying The Return of the Native for A-level English Literature, and I wanted to read more of his novels. My favourite is The Mayor of Casterbridge, but I remember how fond I was of Far from the Madding Crowd, and decided to revisit it, including it in my Classics Club list, and when the most recent Classics Club Spin took place, this book was the chosen result for me. I bought a new copy of the novel, but I then saw the opportunity to listen to this audiobook version and decided to try it this way.
I'm pleased to say that I've loved revisiting this wonderful tale and it has certainly brought back memories for me too. I hope to write more thoughts about it soon; I just seem to be having a bit of difficult patch for writing longer reviews at the moment, I hope they'll start flowing again soon. I wanted to post about reading it though rather than let the moment slip by.
I studied this one at school and, despite that, I still love the book. I can imagine he reads it well, too, as he made a great Gabriel Oak in the adaptation and has such a great voice. I may have to revisit this now, as well!
ReplyDeleteI'm not good at listening to audio books - my attention wonders everywhere! This is one of my favourite Hardy's though.
