Book Reviews

‘The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours.’ Alan Bennett

“Many a book is like a key to unknown chambers within the castle of one’s own self.” ― Franz Kafka

The Secret Supper Club - Dana Bate

Ever since Hannah was a child her dream has always been running her own catering company. A dream that she never followed. Suddenly Hannah finds her relationship with Adam has come to an end and moves into a small apartment underneath her landlord. Hannah begins to live her dream when she starts holding dinner parties for strangers in her landlords house and calls it The Secret Supper Club. The only problem is that her landlord is unaware of such parties happening in his house. Hannah soon finds it difficult to hide this secret from her landlord as The Secret Supper Club gains popularity. Is this a recipe for disaster?

I found Hannah a very likeable character and warmed to her straight away. This book is a great light hearted chick lit read and ideal for those dark winter evenings to read with a hot chocolate in front of a fire.

The style of writing kept me reading and I soon found hours whooshing by after planning to sit down for five mins at a time. A fantastic book, my favourite book this year!
