Book Reviews

‘The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours.’ Alan Bennett

“Many a book is like a key to unknown chambers within the castle of one’s own self.” ― Franz Kafka

    1. Thanks for commenting Lainy :) It's interesting to see how well known they are, or not.

  2. I have read the Louise Douglas one too so I know that is good. Having read Patrick Gale and Victoria Hislop I know what I am getting with these books. The others I will probably get to in a year or two!

  4. I like the look of Jubilee and The Book of Summers. On the whole though, it seems like a very 'safe' selection this year.

  5. That looks like a good mix of accessible mainstream books to me. I didn't like The Hypnotist but I did like The Book of Summers and Tideline

    1. Thanks for commenting. The Hypnotist is one I have to find out more about. Tideline is sitting on my bedside cabinet and I'm hoping to read it very soon.

  9. I'm a bit uninspired by this list. I'd heard of all the books already and so I'm not going to be checking out anything new because of this list.

The only one I've read is The Night Circus and I did enjoy that. The only other one I want to read is Jubilee - at least I won't have trouble finding it in the library now :-)

    1. I've heard some many wonderful comments about The Night Circus. Yes I want to read Jubilee too, and there should be a fair few copies in circulation now :) The ones I hadn't heard much about are the Harris and Kepler books.
      Thanks for commenting Jackie.
