Book Reviews

‘The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours.’ Alan Bennett

“Many a book is like a key to unknown chambers within the castle of one’s own self.” ― Franz Kafka

What I read on my holidays!

Fragile Minds by Claire Seeber - I really enjoyed this interesting thriller, my first read by this author, and I would definitely read more by her. I liked having the three different points of view telling the story throughout.
Before I go to Sleep by S. J. Watson - I was gripped by this, and was impressed by it as so many other readers and bloggers have been too.
Liesl & Po by Lauren Oliver - this is a lovely, magical children's tale, with ghosts and supernatural magical happenings. Something a bit different for me, and I enjoyed it. Cute illustrations too to accompany the story.
The Proof of Love by Catherine Hall - This is a brilliant atmospheric tale of loneliness, friendship, love and tragedy. I was drawn to this due to the setting in the mid 1970's and in the Lake District.
Promises, Promises by Erica James - My first read by this popular author, it was great holiday reading. Three people, all somehow become linked, and find new love and relationships.
And finally, our holiday guide book, Rough Guide to the Scottish Highlands & Islands, which was very handy!
Hopefully I'll review at least some if not all of the novels in more detail in future.
